A mother and father fidget on either side of their teenage son on his 13th birthday, nervously trying to start a conversation. Guessing what it means, the son anxiously awaits the sheer awkwardness of the dreaded “talk.” But what they end up telling him is totally different than what anyone would expect.

This is one of the 12 plays that will be performed at the 10 Minute Play Festival from November 16th-18th at 7:30 pm in the WHS auditorium. Each one carefully directed by a student at WHS, these plays range from comedies to darker themed plays about family dynamics.

Written by award-winning playwrights in the Boston area, the preparation for each play has provided an opportunity for students to explore their talents not only in theater but also as a director.

“I thoroughly enjoy directing. It’s like painting a picture: like my own very creation that I  get to make,” senior Maddie Epperson said, director of Going Viral by Brandon Crose.

The 10 Minute Play Festival will be performed in the WHS auditorium from November 16th to 18th at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are 5$ per student and 10$ per adult. The Thursday performance is free for all WHS students.
